Port Augusta is home to some of Australia's BIGGEST
Yellowtail Kingfish. Not only that but they can be caught from
small boats, due to the sheltered area around the power house
where they congregate.
August seems to be the most reliable month with these 3
monsters caught in mid August 2008 down at the Port Augusta
Power house.

Giant Kingfish are endemic to the region, going back prior
to the end of commercial fishing in the early 80's these were
often netted by commercial fisherman.
The most popular spot to fish for the Port Augusta Kingfish,
is along the front of the Power Stations.

The Port Augusta Kingfish can be caught using a
variety of methods. The most popular is live baiting using live
squid although live salmon works as well. The squid can be
caught just South of the Port Augusta power station in front of
the first shack. But dont be friented to try other methods such
as casting poppers & trolling. Recently ther have been
succes using down riggers.

The above picture shows the channel that leads
down to the Port Augusta Power House where the giant Port
